What is Thermally Modified Wood (ThermoWood)?
Thermally modified wood is a type of wood material produced entirely without chemicals through a patented thermal modification process. The wood is heated at temperatures between 180°C and 230°C in a strictly controlled environment. The high temperature alters the wood’s chemical and physical properties, improving its structure and performance.
This process increases the durability and dimensional stability of the wood, making it more resistant to decay. Compared to untreated wood, thermally modified wood is also less prone to warping, swelling, or shrinking due to the reduced moisture content. In addition, it offers better thermal insulation because its thermal conductivity decreases. Aesthetically, thermally modified wood is recognizable by its warm, uniform brown tone across the entire surface.
